Communes of early 20th century, student squats, Soviet communal apartments or religious settlements may be considered somewhat outcast by many people.

Nevertheless, people are getting back to the idea of living together with those who are not their relatives. Principles of community, shared use and mobility reflect the influence of the Digital Revolution and demographic, economic and urban shifts in the social structure.

What's behind it?

Sharing economy

In just a few years, the idea of coworking changed the world of office spaces. Similarly, the idea of coliving will transform the conception of property and habitat.

We live and work to experience the true meaning of the words 'co-living,' 'co-working,' 'co-learning,' 'co-creating' and 'co-habbit.' Living together has difficulties that can be overcome and benefits that are indisputable.

Fewer strict boundaries and more hospitality; respect for privacy, effectiveness of and responsibility for sharing the same living and working space. This is happening now.

Coliving at the Melnica Space

Residents

We believe that only lovers people with the same interests will be left alive in a coliving. That's why we invite teams united by a business, a project, a job or a hobby. If your team includes a family with children, consult the Melnica Space team. If you have animals, dogs should be friendly with cats and vice versa.

Community

Our coliving plays two important roles. First, it's a public space, a meeting point for Zaoksky District residents. Second, it's a resource center for local initiatives.

In other words, residents of our coliving never get bored. They can join scheduled events, suggest their own activities or become members of the Resource center and share their knowledge, expertise and connections with others.

Coliving period

In 2020, we can host only one team of digital nomads in our Summer guesthouse, which means 5–12 people for the warm season only.

We are going to expand and develop our coliving network.

Inheritance of the Soviet farm

You like a post-apocalyptic setting? Dungeons, ruins, silhouettes of cowsheds, huge silos with the acoustics of a gothic cathedral, graffiti and small architectural forms are the legacy the Melnica Space inherited from the Soviet farm and several years of architectural festivals.

The territory of the farm is scaring and attractive at the same time; it gives a particular creative vibe to the place.

Then it gets beautiful

Really beautiful. Leaving the Melnica territory, you will find steep hills and a calm river with wonderful water to swim in. Fields and small forests spread around at different heights for more than 6 miles. There are flowers, fragrant herbs, eagles, herons and a variety of songbirds.

On the other side of the farm you can find everything that makes our life comfortable. A village shop selling essentials is within walking distance. A 5-minute drive will be enough to reach Zaoksky town's chain stores, Tarusskaya train station, a post office, drug stores, a hospital or an animal clinic.

Infrastructure and territory

Food, cleaning and other services

The Melnica Space coliving is part of Zaoksky District's small-territory economy.

We buy 80 per cent of food from local producers and artisans, members and followers of the international Slow Food community.

We create jobs for Zaoksky District residents. They keep the space neat and tidy.
